InterContinental Hotels Group and AirTran Airways are teaming up on their rewards programs.

AirTran, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AAI), and IHG, (NYSE: IHG), have formed a partnership that will offer benefits to members of both loyalty programs, AirTran’s A+ Rewards and IHG’s Priority Club Rewards.

IHG is AirTran’s first global hotel partner to offer A+ Rewards credits for hotel stays at any of IHG branded hotels, which include InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Express, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.

“We selected IHG to be AirTran Airways’ preferred hotel partner because of its extensive portfolio of well-known brands,” said Tad Hutcheson, vice president of marketing and sales for AirTran Airways. “Now our frequent fliers can get a bonus for flying and staying whether it’s for business or leisure travel.”

The program takes effect Oct. 6. A+ Rewards members who join Priority Club and designate their earning preference accordingly, members will earn a 1/2 A+ Rewards credit for every qualified IHG hotel stay.

Priority Club members can redeem 10,000 Priority Club points for two A+ Rewards credits.

IHG has its North American headquarters in Atlanta.

AirTran, which plans to merge with Southwest Airlines in a $1.4 billion deal, has its main hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
